There are so many aspects to making a great presentation. In some respects, it reminds me of a professional golf swing;
- keep your head down
- left arm straight
- deliberate takeaway
- level plain
- proper stance
- good follow through
- etc., etc., etc.
We could talk about the techniques of effective speaking at length, and we will later since they are, in fact, important. However, the ultimate place to start is with you and with your mind.
Yes, it’s all about you!
First and foremost, it’s about your mindset.
What is your mindset? Is it conditioned and trained for making great presentations?
The right mindset is not that difficult to attain! It begins with simple desire. If you simply want to become a prolific presenter then you are already half way there.
Next, take that desire and make the decision to act. Combining desire and action is the basis for a winning formula when it comes to effective speaking.
Yes, if you decide, and then act on that desire, you will become a great presenter!
I’m confident in your ability because it happened to me. My last full time job was in a small advertising agency that employed about 100 people, which I thought was the perfect size. After settling in the first few years, I was convinced that I would hang my hat there until retirement. However, after year six, things unraveled quickly, and it got to the point where I simply needed to make a change. But I had no plan, no plan at all, and barely a clue, only a decision to make.
But I acted on my desire and started my own firm. Combining that desire with a decision to branch out allowed for many possibilities that I didn’t know existed at the time. Ultimately, that decision was blessed!
Be prudent, take precautions, but more importantly, take action. You can do it.
I’m convinced that your desires and goals can simply be realized by taking action and believing in yourself.
